“Ginko” is from the Origin series that explored various items that stem from the artist’s childhood and heritage. The rice field landscapes in Japan, hoshigaki (dried persimmons) you find in the winter, the ginko leaves, shishito peppers and more - all in which symbolize different seasons in Japan.
She has been told sheʻs only given one chance to speak up - and that she is to choose what and when sheʻll say very wisely. She found that moment, and as she began to speak, a huge Ginko leaf fell on her face. No one heard what she said.
The Origin series was first exhibited at the Honolulu studio/showroom of Tomi Bratland, a metalsmith and jewelry designer of Nature Metal Works. It was a joint exhibition with the designer where two different artists explored the same theme.
