"We Are the Ocean" Green By Shar Tuiasoa

Size : 12"x16"

The Polynesian woman depicted sits gracefully amidst the gentle embrace of the ocean, embodying the harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. Half submerged, she becomes one with her surroundings, symbolizing the inseparable bond between our people and the marine world. Her serene presence serves as a reminder of the reverence and respect our ancestors held for the ocean, recognizing it as a source of sustenance, spirituality, and cultural identity.

Holding a conch shell in her hand, she carries echoes of tradition and wisdom, its sound resonating across generations as a call to safeguard our precious marine ecosystems. Surrounding her is a diverse array of marine life, from the majestic whale to intricate coral formations, each species interdependent and interconnected in the delicate balance of nature, underscoring the importance of preserving biodiversity and protecting vulnerable species.

However, amidst this beauty, there is also a subtle reminder of the challenges our oceans face. The fishing net draped over her shoulder serves as a poignant symbol of human impact, highlighting the need for sustainable practices and responsible stewardship of our marine resources.

Through this illustration, Shar aims to inspire a deeper appreciation for the ocean's beauty and complexity while advocating for its conservation. By embracing cultural heritage and honoring the wisdom of ancestors, collective efforts can be made to ensure a brighter future for our oceans and all who depend on them.
