Eric Maurus Presents “Hawaiian Dystopia: Pacific Relics”

Haleiwa, Hawaii — April 2026 — Contemporary artist Eric Maurus will debut his latest exhibition, Hawaiian Dystopia: Pacific Relics, on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Greenroom Gallery Haleiwa.

This new body of work invites viewers into a surreal yet contemplative vision of Hawaii—one that blurs the line between reality and imagination. Through striking visual narratives, Maurus explores the idea of immense, ancient presences embedded so deeply within everyday landscapes that they have become invisible to those who pass by them.

“Driving through familiar landscapes, my mind begins to wander,” Maurus reflects. “What if these giants have always been here — so vast, so permanent, so woven into the fabric of daily life that we stopped seeing them long ago? They have become part of the scenery. Part of the morning. Part of the unremarkable. Nobody looks up anymore.”

Pacific Relics is not a prediction of the future nor a cautionary tale. Instead, it is a recurring daydream—a quiet reimagining of Hawaii as a place where the monumental and the ancient coexist seamlessly with the present. In this world, these silent giants stand as constant witnesses, as natural and enduring as mountains themselves.

“These landscapes have always existed,” Maurus adds. “I simply learned to see what was already there.”

The exhibition offers an immersive experience that challenges perception and encourages viewers to reconsider the familiar. By presenting an altered reality that feels both foreign and deeply rooted, Maurus invites audiences to pause, reflect, and rediscover the unseen.

The opening reception is free and open to the public.
